How to get county parcel data into AutoCAD or Civil 3D
Parcel lines that land in the right place on your drawing come down to the format you choose and the coordinate system it carries.
Pick the format for what you need
DXF opens directly in AutoCAD but carries linework only: no owner, parcel number, or other attributes. A shapefile keeps the attributes, and Civil 3D brings it in with MAPIMPORT.
Most county parcels are published in the county's State Plane zone, in US survey feet. Keep that coordinate system and the parcels land where they should on a drawing set up in the same zone.
What it takes by hand
The county's parcel viewer rarely offers a download, and when it does it's usually the whole county:
- Find the service behind the county's parcel viewer.
- Pull every parcel in the county, often over a hundred thousand, in batches.
- Clip it down to your site.
- Convert to DXF or shapefile without losing the State Plane coordinate system along the way.
- Check it against your control before you trust it.
With MapPull
Find your county in the public maps list, or paste its map link. Tick the parcel layer, draw a box around your site, and export as DXF for linework or Shapefile for attributes. Both keep the county's coordinate system, which MapPull shows before you export.
